From Pest to Protector: How beavers are helping fight climate change.

How to prevent apathy?  Jane has some answers.  Myself, I become apathetic when I see my efforts not helping others with similar goals.  But, I keep trying and learning as I know the answer is with our youth.

As a Keep Houston Beautiful Commissioner since 1990s I find my place is to scale education others provide. Best education is hands-on local action.

  • Houston Climate Week – UHD who also sponsors Aspirations in Computing Awards
  • KHB Mayor’s Proud Partner Awards reconnecting with my roots in Alief as a teacher at Elsik HS. Barbara Quatro at 78 is still leading an planting trees. Razi Assaduddin my computer science student in Leo Club helped with KHB projects and an Urban Harvest Garden continues as a KHB Commissioner.
  • Attending both advocate and friend Becky Luman said, “I’m glad they are sharing their voices; however, they are missing experience and facts, are behind on the progress being made in sustainable design and EJ, and don’t provide specific solutions.  No one talked about the circular economy, there was too much emphasis on recycling vs reducing waste and reusing.  Definitely, though, agree on the need to elevate the issue of toxins in the environment which is being swept under the rug with the climate change movement. Our youth need to be encouraged to become educated to solve problems, not just identify them. Appreciated one woman who mentioned we need to consider what has been done historically (in the context of not reinventing the wheel).  Communities need to be educated on/in the lead for monitoring data in their own communities.  Again, this comes with education.”
