    • August 6, 1943: Jonathan Postel, Internet innovator
Jonathan Postel played a key role in creating the Internet communications protocols known as Requests for Comments (RFCs). RFCs cover many topics, including ideas for new research and status memos about the Internet. In RFC 793, part of which has since come to be called Postel’s Law, he urged Internet users to “be conservative in what you send, be liberal in what you receive.” Born on August 6, 1943, Postel received degrees in engineering and a Ph.D. in computer science at UCLA.

RESEARCH ASW (Algae Saves the World)
My very good friend Linda Medlin from high school is a research scientist studying algae.  She has researched the use in producing energy and started a company, ASW – Algae Saves the World.  To learn more see www.awi.de/en/go/molecular_genetics.

Not all scientists have to work at a university. It is possible to start your own company and do your research for profit. Linda Medlin’s postdoc started this company for environmental monitoring using molecular tools. Microbia Environment is her company.
